Käppelijoch
This little chapel is called Käppelijoch and it stands in the middle of the Basel middle bridge. I've heard that here the toll for crossing the bridge was collected. And I've also heard that from here, people accused of various crimes (like adultery, witchcraft, theft, etc...) were pushed into the Rhine, hands and feet bound. If they managed to survive, they were fished downstream, pardoned and exiled (the medieval equivalent of today's being banned from Twitter). I had to wait for days before being able to sit and sketch this one, as the spot is now base camp for a group of beggars that store their belongings there: I took advantage of a moment when it was free.
